Katie's memorial portrait

We were informed yesterday that an artist friend of ours, Xan Blackburn, was commissioned by a group of greyhound friends to do a memorial portrait of Katie, based on a photograph I had taken of her back in 2011. Xan is writing a work-in-progress post on her blog about the portrait, and using this photo as reference:

I don't really know what to say about this kindness shown to us by our greyhound friends. We've always wanted a Xan painting on our walls but never got around to getting one. But now we'll have one, featuring our very own Katie. We can't thank Xan or our greyhound friends enough for making this happen.

  1. I have met some truly wonderful people through my love for greyhounds. It really is an amazing community.

    1. i can't say i know of any other community (although i'm sure there are others out there) besides the greyhound community that does such a thing this to honor one's pet.

  2. That is such a great picture of her. And how nice of them to get a commissioned portrait of her. Can't wait to see the final painting.

    1. katie was the one who tilted her head the most out of the four greys we've had since 1993. i was lucky to get that picture.

i was telling gayle that i'd be happy with any stage that xan shows of the drawing. i think her art is that good.
